If an elementary school teacher graded you on your involvement in your child's education, what kind of a grade would you get? Should your kid's first-grade teacher be grading you in the first place? If Florida state Rep. Kelli Stargel's bill becomes law, public school teachers will be required to grade the parents of students in kindergarten through the third grade. http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/01/26/florida.grading.parents/index.html I think this is a great idea! Some parents are too quick to blame the schools when it's them that's at fault.

You've got to be kidding me, right? Talk about a nanny state! I think one of the teachers commenting on the article says exactly why this is not even a helpful idea: "teacherNV: I agree. As much as I would like to grade the horrible parents I deal with, it would just make the parent-teacher relationship more strained. Getting good grades are hardly important to the parents I would want to grade anyway."

It puts on paper that the parents aren't doing their part so if they complain about their child's progress, the teacher rightly doesn't take all the blame. There's too many lazy parents that don't help their kids with their homework or even check they are doing it at all then blame the schools for the kid's lack of progress or failing exams. Teachers aren't there to raise their kids, and making sure they do their schoolwork and behave in school is part of parenting.
