I've always been cautious but am even more so now. I try save money when I can by cutting corners. Are you doing the same or don't you feel you're doing anything different ? How are you saving the pennies?

Just cutting off some really not necessary expenses, hoping it works.

We had to cancel our vacation in May because he didn't get his yearly bonus.

Awww no, Christine, that's a shame. But at times like this you need to look on the bright side. He's still got a job and that's better than getting the bonus and losing his job because of the cost to the company of paying bonuses. They're all trimming back anyway they can to avoid job cuts.

I keep telling myself that, but still, it was a hard pill to swallow.  I so need a vacation, but yes I try to look on bright side!

Well, I'm sure you'll find some way to still have fun closer to home. Have you ever stopped by your local tourism office or looked at the state's tourism website? There's probably a lot of local interest spots close by you've never been to.

I never thought of that, I'll have to check it out.  I like day trips so I'm sure we'll have fun!

Yeah you will, it's surprising what's on your doorstep if you just look. :) Especially at that time of year, there's a lot of summer activities going on.

I hope so, I haven't found too much just yet.  I am taking the day tomorrow though to surf and relax!

Well, it could be slightly early for events to be listed so don't lose hope. Many begin in May. It would be worth doing it again when the new month arrives.

Christine, I saw this and thought of you. You can put in where you live and it tells you what attractions are within a tank of gas's drive or even less, directions, how long a drive it is and how much it would cost in gas to go.

Hubby's off for a few weeks soon so this is what we'll be doing, a day here and there. Just got far too much going on right now that I can spend a lot of time away from my computer. I can't afford an extensive time out.

I agree!  There is always a reason not to spend, and always a bill due.  Book it, I say and pay a little each week.  Take that vacation!!!

I have been trying to save gas by limiting my trips to town and I've actually been buying more items at the dollar store like soap, deodorant, cleaning supplies, etc.  It's amazing what you can find there.

We never really go on trips.  We camp every year for a couple of weeks at a time about an hour and a half from our house.  My kids enjoy that more than anything.

I live in the dollar store LOL. The only thing I don't like about the dollar store is when they put stuff on 75% clearance and I'm not there that day to snap up the bargains.

I can't resist all the bargains. I've found some grocery items cheaper too than in the big stores, like stock cubes and trash bags and ziploc bags. Toiletries and cleaning stuff I always buy in there. I have no brand loyalty at all. Also great for the gardening stuff! I buy all my plant pots there. The other week I got a Clairol permanent hair dye for $3. You can't beat that.

Most of the retailer's sites have a store locator Christine where you can just add your zip code and it'll tell you your nearest one. Try Dollar General and Fred's, those are what we have. Family Dollar's another name. Some of them might have sites.
