I use it all the time and was surprised to see this report on WebMD saying not only is it not any better than regular soap, but it can add triclosan to your system.

quote:

Could a daily dose of triclosan cause health problems? Experimental studies show that triclosan can cause bacteria to become resistant to antibiotics in test tubes. So far, no one knows whether that leads to the same result in hospitals or homes. Some researchers, though, believe resistant “superbugs” created by widespread antibacterial soap use could be a real possibility.

I have never been big on the anti-bacterial products, other than the hand sanitizers, but I cut back on what we did use years ago.  I use it now only to clean my make up brushes - lol

I read somewhere that with all the anti bacterial products we are using, we are killing the bacteria fighters naturally in our bodies.  I look at it the same way I do medications.  I use it when I need it ... I have to use it on my make up brushes, and I use santizer when using a port-a-john at soccer games, or when I am in high public areas (theme parks, etc), but otherwise I feel the more my body naturally fights off, the stronger my immune system.

You're probably right there, diane. I just got in the habit of using it but will be rethinking that now. There was an article I read ages ago about how kids today are kept too clean and sterile and don't get the chance to build that normal immunity the way we did a few generations ago. There's a lot to be said for building mud pies and such like. :)

I totally agree!  Our daycare lady is pushing us to get the 3 year old seen by an allergist!  I say let him sneeze!  He's only THREE! Maybe he'll grow out of it, but meds are definitely NOT needed yet!

I think it may be a good idea to see the allergist, just so they can find out WHAT he is allergic to.  I agree with you, some things need to be suffered through, I suffered through allergies, as did most of my family.  but now they have a test to see what the child may be reacting to ... seasonal pollen, trees, mold, animal dander ... that sort of thing.

I took our little one to get this test done because we thought we had pinpointed where her eczema was coming from, but then out of nowhere a rash sparked up and took over before we even knew it was coming!  I am hoping the results will tell us what is causing it.

Nope.  The only time I use antibacterial soap is when I buy it by accident.  LOL  I read that it is hard on septic systems as well.  Antibacterial soap can kill beneficial bacteria in your tank causing sewage to build up faster and possibly clogging your drain field.  I know most people probably don't have to worry about that but I live in the sticks and we do have our own septic tank.

That's interesting Thelma, I never heard that before. The only thing I knew you shouldn't use if you have a septic tank is Charmin (allegedly) because it doesn't disintegrate as easy as other toilet tissues and clogs the pipes more. An old landlord told me that.

You're right Fiery.  That's what I've always been told too so I only use Scott Tissue.

I bought AngelSoft the other day and it says on it septic safe. I don't know if that's a new thing or just because we'd been talking about it that I noted it said that because I sure didn't notice before.
