We attempted to do this before. Unfortunately, during our tests, we noticed that programs expected different formats. Each company had a slight variation of gedcom.

We are now developing a screen that will allow you to download the family tree as a GED file. Uploading will not be available. This will be available within a month. Although we would like it to work in every application, we are only going to support Family Tree Maker.

I want to print the family tree and post it on a wall at our family reunion. There are almost 400 members in my family tree.  I dont' know what a GECOM file is,,,,,,,is something I would give to a print shop and they could print it for me?  Thank you, Toni Wieczorek.

The GEDCOM allows you to import the family tree into different products. Usually applications dedicated to just the family tree (not websites, but applications) have really good print functionality.

The import option is very picky about the GEDCOM file. If there is one entry it does not recognize, it will abort the operation. We will try to make it more forgiving.

I do not see the option to export to gedcom file in my family tree.  I thought I had seen it before, but can't find it now.  Is this option still available?  I want to be able to export and upload to a program that will print reports by generation.  Are reports like that something you might be able to provide in the future?

In the linked version, click "Download GEDCOM". In the delinked version, click "More" and "Export"

OK, I found it and I got a message that said "Error in finding the file".  Do I have to download it first?  I tried on two family trees and just clicked gedcom then export.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to reproduce this error. Please email support with your website and the issue.
