If there was ever a story about missing kids that should give parents hope, this is it. Her mother's sure it's her because the woman remembered everything she was asked about by her mom. She was only 11 when snatched in South Lake Tahoe, California.

This is so sad the more I read about it. She had two children to this man that imprisoned her and was living in a shed with the kids all that time.

This is so sad news. Innocent babes are facing with that crude guys. Very humanless. I am very sad about it.We created money taking more problems. What a world.

And now all the missed opportunities to end this earlier are coming to light.

What I don't understand though is if she had access to email and a phone as the papers say, she was running the print business, why didn't she call for help? And why did she, after 18 years? I think there is probably a lot more to this story. All I can think of is brainwashing, but I still wonder....

She didn't call for help after 18 years. A campus security guard checked up on him because he was acting weird and trying to hand out religious brochures there. The family was with him and the girls all looked so strange that when the check showed he had a record, they called the police.
Has to be brainwashing, Christine. We don't know what he's told her. Say he'd threatened to kill her or her mother if she told anyone. Or if he'd said he had already killed them and she thought she had nowhere to run to. Remember he's had nearly two decades to shape her to his will. Plus she had her kids to think of - maybe he threatened to kill them or said her family would never want her again because she had them.
Whatever the reason I think it's ignorant, distasteful and shameful that the press would even insinuate it was her fault that she didn't get away sooner. She was 11 and a mother at 14 by him after being subjected to horrors we can't imagine. Shame on them because they are reinforcing myths that all sickos live by that rape and molest that the victim and not them is at fault. "She asked for it. It was her fault. She wanted it really. She loved me." What's truly horrific here is the press's attitude towards a victimized child just so they can squeeze another angle out of it. I'm absolutely disgusted by it. She was not at fault. EVER.

Whoa, I wasn't saying it was her fault at all! Just saying it seemed strange to me that she never tried to get away. Yes, I agree brainwashing had to be in play, had to be. Hopefully she is able to regain some of what she lost and return to a somewhat normal life, after much therapy! I hope there is a special place for him too, whenever he leaves this earthly plane.

I didn't mean you Christine, sorry if it read like that. I meant the media portrayal. And I hope he goes to jail and is in amongst the general population. That way you can be sure someone will save us the cost of keeping him around for forty years or whatever. Even criminals have their own special hatred for his type.
You've got to wonder what a shock the everyday world is to her daughters to that have never lived outside that compound. He's ruined so many lives. And what kind of woman is his wife??

People that knew her says she too seemed brainwashed. It is all very, very sad. Amazing though that she was reunited with her family, just hope she can get her life back to a normal degree at some point...
