every year i go through this with my kids. the oldest always gets the newer clothes because she grows out of them first...then her sister inherits her hand-me-downs. When they were younger, it was easier because they didn't really care what they were wearing to school. Now I find my youngest wanting to fit in with the latest fashion, but i cant afford to buy an entire new wardrobe for both kids. I try to be fair, but lets face it...the oldest needs the new clothes because she can't fit in her old ones! I do buy a few things to help the youngest out... But enough about my rant...I found a solution. I went online and found a way to make my younger daughter feel better. Instead of looking at her clothes as hand-me-downs, we look at them as a start to an entire new look. I bought some stencils and fabric paint and we got together and made all the clothes look different. Now she looks forward to being creative and I think it is great. Here's the place we got our ideas from and downloaded free stencil designs www.simplyspray.com

Wow! What a great idea! The other good thing is that it seems that the more frayed and broken in jeans are the more popular they are...so even if they are hand me downs they're still in style!

Being a middle child I was in the same situation and used to hate getting my older sister's stuff. Often though when it was something new it was matching my younger sisters since we were close in age but the shirts etc would be a color variation. That sounds like a fun way to personalize the gear!

That is a neat idea!!! I'm glad your daughter is happy with her new fashions. I've got 3 boys and they don't really seem to care what they wear. Jeans and t-shirts, that's about it around here. LOL My middle son always had to wear size slim so he could never fit into his older brothers jeans. My youngest son loves getting hand me downs. The only problem with boys is they pretty much wear their clothes out. You can find some nice deals on great clothes at rummage sales too Matty76. Especially girls clothing. Second hand stores as well. I see tons of designer clothes on the racks for girls.

My big sister had this corduroy trouser suit that I so wanted to get passed down to me when I was a teen LOL. It was rust brown needlecord, complete with waistcoat. When I think about it now it was UGLY. Really I think I just wanted her figure (think Victoria Principal in her Dallas days.)
