I had a few run-ins with mine when my son was small. Unlucky for him I don't believe in treating doctors like gods and never questioning their judgment LOL.  They're human which means they're not infallible. Ever done that?

oh yeah - lol.  dentists too.  I have walked out of visits because I didn't agree with what they were trying to "sell" me.  the most recent being a dentist that insisted my 5 year old (then 3) needed a device put in her mouth the get her to stop sucking her thumb ... yeah NOT!

Eh? You're joking. I've never heard of such nonsense. That's the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time LOL.

no, the dentist was insistent that her thumb sucking was going to mess with her speech patterns and cause her to be buck toothed.  I told the dentist that falyse  had already been seen for speech and was CLEARED and she had been sucking her thumb since she came home from the hospital and wow!  no buck teeth.  the only issue she does have is a curvature in the roof of her mouth - which I also have from thumb sucking and it has caused me no problems in life.  I also have not had an issue with buck teeth even tho I sucked my thumb well into my teens.  the dentist was NOT going to win with me - lol

You know it's lucky for your kids that you don't take what professionals say at face value if it sounds dubious. I'm the same. Thank goodness for the net! It's great we no longer have to and can easily investigate things further as well as trusting our own judgment.

absolutely, and any more, it appears that doctors have no problems ordering prescriptions that you don't need.  I don't know if it is pressure from those people who don't feel they have gotten their money's worth unless that have a scrip in hand, or if it's something else.

I told my current doctor that I am not a hypochondriac (sp?), I do not bring my children in for every sniffle or ache.  I only bring in my children (and myself) when I have exhausted my own resources or have a question.  If he feels that my child or I need to go home and wait out whatever illness we have, then I am okay with that.  I do not want an antibiotic that will not help.

its funny, but I took my middle child in a couple of years ago for a rash that my doctor thought caused by strep (tho her throat cultures were negative).  he asked me if she was allergic to any antibiotics and I said I didn't know because she had never been on one ... she was SEVEN.  he could not believe that she had never had an antibiotic.  I told him she had early childhood asthma and the common cold, but otherwise was a very healthy child (formula fed too, BTW - lol)

I rarely go to the docs or take my kids in.  LOL  I haven't always agreed 100% with my doctor's diagnosis but he's also not one that claims to know it all either.  He's more than willing to admit when he's not sure or if he turns out to be wrong about something.

The dentist is another story.  The first dentist I ever had was a wonderful gentleman who never took a penny more than the insurance gave.  Great guy.  Then his son took over the practice.  He is all about money, money, money so he'd try and convince me to do a lot of unnecessary things to my teeth and the kids teeth.  He got himslef in a pickle writing out false prescriptions for his drug habit. (He just made the paper again for the same thing.)  I switched to a new dentist now but she seems just as greedy.  Always trying to get me to spend extra.  I think they get mad at me when I don't do what they want.  Hey, the day they want to do the service at no extra cost, then I'll agree to it.

Good grief, I don't think I'd want my dentist to be high when he was drilling.  Or ever! LOL. That's very scary. I'm surprised he's still allowed to practice.

I think insurance brings out the worst in some professionals. What they and others don't realize is that their greed is what makes it so unaffordable for many people because the costs always end up at the consumer's door in the shape of increased premiums.

If they'd play fair more people would have insurance if it was affordable, which would increase their customer base. They'd probably end up making more because of that than bleeding dry the ones they have.
