Spring is just around the corner -- a time when many of us simply dust off the neti pot or load up on Benadryl in preparation for allergy season. It's a little harder for dogs and cats with environmental allergies to avoid the elements. Fortunately, our experts offer cool tips to help keep hot spots and other problems at bay during allergy season. Article

I'd like to share some additional information about pets’ allergies. Most of the time, allergies to your pet can be controlled. By keeping you pet clean you can get rid of so many problems. As mentioned in the article you can wash the paws of the dogs often, when they enter the house. When they're allergic, pets will show some symptoms like humans, such as sneezing. Keep Their Coat Clean. Bathe you dogs with some mild shampoos perhaps oatmeal based product. Wipe his face and inside his ears with a clean cloth and warm water. Cats can be harder to bathe, So give the a dry bathe with spray-on products or wipes. Systemic yeast will often manifest as allergies. Give them plenty of fresh water.

Hi Rowina, nice to meet you and welcome to Family Lobby. I bathe my dogs regularly and one of them still suffers from allergies. She's worse over the summer than in winter. We pretty much have it in hand now though I wish she had none. Heck, I wish I had none, never mind the dog LOL.

Some cats are really prone to allergies especially when they have thick furs. Persian are sensitive to almost anything and must be well taken cared of.

That is so true. My sister has a persian cat and the poor guy always has a sneeze, cough or runny nose! I did read once, on another noe, that when dogs sneeze it's their way of laughing. What do you think?

Although some pets may actually have environmental allergies, many are simply allergic to one or more of the ingredients in their foods. If your pet has hot spots, itching, chewing, vomiting, diarrhea, low weight etc. FIRST look to the food. Some dogs are allergic to all grains, which are the basis of most commericial dog food. There are many quality grain free dog foods out there that are very good for your pets. Simply eliminating grains from a diet can work wonders. Understand that most commercial pet food, even the "high end brands" and the one pushed the most by vets are not healthy for your animals. Google the article, "What's Really in Pet Food" and check out the website, Dogfoodprojectdotcom to truly understand how detrimental commerical pet food is. Either find a quality pet food, cook for your pets (many websites online have great recipes), or feed a raw diet (google BARF diet) and you see will wonderful healthy changes in your pets.
