I think it has that potential, shaneyward. The big plus is twofold that I see: Circles, where you can share with your acquaintances/friends/family without having to share the same information with every connection you have, like you have to with Facebook. The second is Hangout, the group video chat.
Remember, Google was the new kid on the search engine block not that long ago (1998) and look how it monopolizes search now.

It is cool. I got an invite and it takes a little getting used to like any new interface, but so far so good. I love the Circles and have yet to try many of the other features. That alone makes it beat the pants off facebook imho.

Google plus is the newest social medial, I have a google plus account and thanks to my friend who invited me there, Sooner or later, google plus is becoming more popular than facebook, but only few for now have an google plus account.

Its like facbook , twitter, orkut or lindin...
Its a social media network site, just like you used facebook.. Its also a community like facebook...

Google plus can be hard to understand at first but after the result of it, success can be very much appreciated.
