Almost every parent asks themselves, “What happened to my kid?” the minute their child turns into a teenager. All of a sudden, a parent is faced with a confrontational, moody, disrespectful, arrogant person who cares about nothing. Not even themselves. Communication becomes difficult and they no

This is just about the most inane advice I have ever heard. As I write this, my teenage son is in the next room slurring his words after stumbling in from outside. He has become consistently angry, belligerent and hostile. He blows shifts at work, smokes dope with his friends constantly and doesn't care about anything but his death metal and black metal music. This isn't the way he was as little as a year and a half ago. His grades have dropped. Some degree of teenage "rebellion" may be normal but the behaviour described in this article is dangerous and needs to be dealt with as soon as it rears its head. The consequences of not dealing with it could be too tragic for a parent to even consider.

I agree sometimes there needs to be more action taken depending on the individual circumstances. Simply criticizing without providing any alternative solutions isn't helpful though. How are you dealing with your own son's issues? If you share that it could be helpful to another parent. Thank you.

So, what do you suggest parents do, Sarah? Welcome to Family Lobby. I'd love to hear a teen's insight on this.
