Nice to meet you Katy, welcome to Family Lobby. :) I think you have a workable balance there. I had friends that were boys at 12, but not a boyfriend as such. My dad would have freaked. You have them well supervised obviously and that makes a huge difference I think, as does going for cute and stylish and not revealing clothes. Nice to have you here. quote:
Barbie and Bratz dolls are sexist and a degradation of females. Women will always be seen as sub-human, no matter what, if we keep this up. RickRoll Welcome aboard, RickRoll. :) Women are only seen as subhuman by those who choose to see it that way. They aren't always seen like that in my experience. I could complain that G.I.Joe's sexist and a degradation to males because of his overdeveloped pecs which present a distorted view of what the average male body is like. Quite honestly I don't see what all the fuss is about nor the difference. He's a doll and so are they. The more fuss adults make over how terrible or dangerous a toy is, the more kids want it. That's just the nature of kids. Kids will tire of them soon, same as any other toy. Unless we plan to keep our kids away from TV, the internet, and now toy stores apparently, there's no way around them seeing some kind of exposure of the female form, whether blatant or subtle, sexy or not. Heck, a walk around the mall on a summer's day will show off more bare flesh per square inch of scantily clad folks from kids to adults, both male and female, than I ever want to have to see in my life. We cannot cushion them entirely from real life. What we can do is teach them like Katy said that they don't have to be revealing or dress sexy to be beautiful or likable.
