My dad used to threaten to leave us with "the gypsies" anytime we were fighting in the back seat. He'd slow the car down and we'd freak out, thinking we were about to be dumped at the side of the road.

Well, a NY mom did just that because her girls (10 and 12) were arguing and was arrested over it. You'd think with her being a lawyer she'd know better than to actually drive off!

well, I can see the humor in it, because I have had days where I have wanted to ditch my argumentative, bickering girls for some peace ... but I can't imagine leaving them on a roadside!

She got into a lot of trouble over it, diane. In fairness she said she intended to just drive round the block and get them again.

I understand but in this day and age...geesh.  I'm sure her heart was in the right place but a little common sense goes a long way too.

I actually did do that once with my oldest son who was about 10 at the time but we were only a block away from the house and we live in a small town.  I pulled in the drive and then walked to the corner and watched him walk.  He had his head hung low the whole time and I'll tell you what, he never misbehaved in the car again!  LOL

I remember this story and I understand her frustration.  However, she dropped them off 3 miles from home in a business district in New York!!!!  Wow.  That's scary!

Exactly, that's a whole different ball game from a small town you live in and only a block from your house. Though we all have days when our tempers get frayed enough to cloud rational thinking, I'm sure. I do anyway, I'll fess up! :)

oh heck yeah!  I have days where I am in complete understanding with how a parent can lose their temper, and their mind.  It just scares me to know there are people that cannot pull themselves back from that edge.  even with my bi-polar, I have felt myself lose it and yell and scream at my kids, but I have also locked myself in a closet when I was afraid that I was going to lose it completely.

You were smart enough to step away, diane. It's tragic that so many don't. I have lost my temper more than once but when I got really angry I'd tell him to get away from me and leave me completely alone for a while. I know when I'm on the brink of going bananas and give fair warning.
