I love the smell of fabric softener it but it fades so quick once clothes are dried. Has anyone found one with a longer lasting scent? No lavender [:@] or vanilla please. [:@]

I like good ole Bounce, but it does fade.  The only thing that smells great and lasts is hanging your clothes outside to dry...mmmmmm I love that smell!

I use snuggle and the smell lasts in blankets and heavier items, I don't smell it in clothing, but my friend says she can smell it on all of us (in a good way - lol).  Maybe you are just becoming too familiar with the smell?

something you can try ... when I do the wash, I pour vinegar in the liquid softener dispenser.  it washes out all of the other scents in the clothes ... perfume, colone, deodorant, body odors.  I noticed that my husband's deodorant was NOT getting washed out with detergent alone, and that after I ran his shirts through the dryer, I could still smell the deodorant.  not a big deal really, but it left me feeling like things weren't really clean.  the vinegar gets out ALL odors!  then when I toss the stuff in the dryer, I throw in 2 fabric softener sheets.  my friend loves the way our blankets smell and told me once that she left the baby's blanket here on purpose because she knew I would wash it before returning it - lol

That's a good tip Diane.  I'm going to try the vinegar in my next wash.  I've got a problem with getting the deodorant (and odor) out of my son's shirts. 

Normally I use snuggle liquid fabric softener and then I also throw a softener sheet in the dryer as well. 

I think you're right Diane, I think we just get used of the smell and we don't notice it anymore.

I don't use them at all any more because I was disappointed in them. And I don't use fabric softener sheets because I don't use a dryer either LOL. Everything is line dried, inside or out. I have a retractable one in my sunroom for when the weather's not agreeable and thought I'd need to buy a dryer when we moved in here but in a year I've not missed it. I'll try the vinegar though, that's a good suggestion!

Oh vinegar?  That's a good one.  I use both in the wash and in the dryer.  I only wish I had a place to air dry...well I could use the cellar but then they smell dank, P-U.  Hopefully it will someday, stop raining so I can hang them outside.

LOL diane. My sunroom's about 20 feet long so end to end I get a good stretch when I need it. Outside I have it strung between three trees in a triangle. Lots of space! Did all the beds and rugs today and got them all dried in a few hours. :D

that's awesom, Kay!  I am the stereotype of suburbia right now ... we have a lone magnolia tree in the front yard ... the back yard HAD beautiful fruit trees, but they have been replaced by a pool and cement work ... no room left for my balcony much less splace to hang my clothes.

of course, living in suburbia -which was not too long ago dairies and farms - it might be wise to keep my clothing indoors to dry just so I can avoid the c0w-dunk dust and smell ;)

LOL, I don't think suburbia would be accommodating about you doing that anyway, diane. :) Country living has its advantages. Remind me I said that next time I complain about the creatures running around all night LOL.

you are right - my clothes would smell of fumes and end up dirtier than before I washed them ;)

Diane, I have been using vinegar in my wash since you posted this little tip and I must say, it really helps neutralize odors! I've also discovered that equal parts vinegar and water has medicinal purposes for healing my dog's ear infections. So far it has completely taken away the smell and his ear is looking so much better.  I'll be bringing him to the vet on Friday to see if my new found 'medicine' does the trick for his ear troubles.

Thelma, I clean my dog's ears with straight vinegar on a scrunched up paper towel when she's in a bath. (Don't use anything that's too fibrous or will break up easily and leave things behind that can irritate the ear). I wipe hers out regularly to keep ear problems at bay. Lots of vets use straight vinegar to tackle ear mites. Just be careful you don't get it in her eyes obviously.

You can also use that to clean her paws after a bath and in between baths. Either wipe them too, taking care to get in all the nooks and crannies, or just dip the paws in some vinegar.

From what I read, what happens is they can pick up the infections on their paws and nails (check if they're inflamed/red looking between the toes and pads or watch for them chewing at them a lot). They constantly transmit them to their ears when they scratch the ears if the paws are left untreated. If you treat the paws too, it breaks that reinfection cycle.

I'm still wanting to try this but keep forgetting to put it in until the laundry's finished LOL. I shall report back too when I remember to finally do it. In fact, I think I'll go right now and stick a Post-it on the washer to remind me. I have a memory like a sieve. [X(]

Yes, I got the vinegar and yes, I used it and it worked GREAT! I'm very impressed with that tip. Thanks diane!

Thelma, I should have said with the vinegar I was talking about, I use distilled white vinegar not apple cider vinegar. And it doesn't get poured in the ears, just wiped out with a damp cotton ball. Undiluted apple cider vinegar would be too strong for that but you can use it to wipe the pads and paws if they get red and itchy. It helps yeast infections I believe and if your dog has that on his paws, every time he scratches his ears he transfers it to them. I wipe down my dog's paws too.
