We were talking about animals the other day. My policeman neighbor informed me that there had been a mother black bear and its cub seen rummaging through the trash of a house that backs onto the forest, which is very close. Then my other neighbor told me she saw a rattlesnake lying sunbathing in the road on our street. Some days suburbia sounds very appealing.They couldn't stop laughing at my face when I realized they weren't kidding LOL.

LOL!  yup!  that is why I happily sit in the middle of the city!!  tho we are close enough to hills to have frequent visits from the coyotes =)  I don't play well with animals ;)

We've had bear here several times.  I love seeing them. [:D]  There had been one at work for better than a month making a big mess with the dumpster.  I'd go out and watch him climb inside and drag trash bags out and into the woods.  The DNR finally trapped and relocated him.  There's been another one sighted not too far away so I'm expecting to meet up with him soon too.  LOL

We see lots of wildlife out here.  I couldn't move back into town for anything.

No coyotes around here that I know of, diane, thank goodness. I think. I'm scared to ask LOL.

I would faint if I saw a bear, Thelma! Seriously, I would. And I can never remember which kind you run from and which kind you play dead for (black vs brown)...so that would save me from having to decide what to do, ha!

Doesn't it scare you being so close though that it might decide you look more tasty than the trash??? Doesn't bear thinking about.

And despite all that,  I wouldn't go back to town either. :D

We only have black bear around here Fiery.  They are more afraid of you than you are of them. 

If I was ever face to face with a brown/grizzly bear......I could play dead easily because I'd faint right there! [sm=icon_surprised.gif] LOL

I am so pleased to hear that because that's the kind we have too LOL. I'm glad they're even more chicken than I am. Our next move we'll be even more out in the wilderness. Hubby wants a home with about 5-15 acres basically in the middle of nowhere and a few miles away from town at least. I'd like that and want a creek or fishing pond too. I wouldn't care if it was fancy or not. It's the outdoors I want. That's what we're aiming for anyway to retire to. :)

We have 2 acres here surrounded by farm fields.  The house was built by the daughter of the farmer who's property surrounds us.  Shortly after her husband, a contractor, built it, they got divorced.  I love it out here but eventually, when all the kids are gone, hubby and I would love to build a SMALL cabin in the middle of 80 acres with nothing but a generator for power, a well for water and a fireplace for heat.  I'm probably just dreaming though....by the time we COULD do it, we'll be too old to WANT to do it.  LMAO!!!!

I sure hope you are able to get that house in the woods Fiery!  It's so nice to be close to nature.

When we were camping, we were awakened every morning by the most beautiful bird song.  Listen to this...... http://www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/id/framlst/Song/h7590so.mp3  It's the song of the Hermit Thrush.  In the middle of the woods it sounded like a musical instrument, I just loved it!!!  It's only an hour and half from where we live and yet I've never heard one before.

I would LOVE that!  Actually I would love to be near the ocean, but since I doubt I'll ever be able to afford that, the middle of nature would be my second choice.  I would absolutely LOVE to not hear horns, trucks, sirens, people...just quiet!

Sounds a nice spot.:) 80 acres would be too much for us. 20 would be our maximum with about 12 being ideal. We're up for the woodburning stove, well water and fireplace too LOL. Forgot to mention we'd want some fruit trees too since we're choosing our perfect site here and a wraparound porch on the cabin. And swing. Gotta have the swing to be able to watch the deer. :)

I don't have speakers on this pc so will need to listen to that when I get back on my other one. :) We have so many birds around here the dawn chorus will waken you. I'm interested to see if I've heard this one.
