Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of leg cramps?  I keep getting charlie horses in my calves...they are really tight and when I stretch in bed they cramp right up. I have tried stretching, Ben Gay, and epsom salt in the tub...nothing seems to help.

I know my stress is very high and I assume thats whats bringing them on.....

Hi I am so sorry about your legs I have great empathy for you. I finally went to a neuro dr. he gave me some meds that really help I can only take it at night. My problem was coming from the nerves in my back. You are on target about stress. As for me it is my worst enemy concerning my health problems. I hopeyou can get help.

I have always heard that when you get cramps it is because your body is lacking potassium.  My FIL was getting them in his arms and the doctor gave him potassium supplements.  I would try some bananas each day to see if it helps.

A warm bath before bed might help loosen the muscles and relax them (and you) too.

I've been doing that, and gettig massaged and the Ben Gay...it seems to be a wee bit better but I still get nervous when I stretch in bed when I'm half asleep that they will snap into a spasm.

good luck.  my hubby wakes up in the middle of the night with them as well - he jumps out of bed and hops around the room trying to get it to relax!

Funny to hear stress mentioned regarding this, I'd never heard that. I get them too but not on a regular basis. I always thought it was to do with dehydration as well. Hmm, I'll be conscious of the stress thing next time.

I hear ya on getting old, Christine.

I think stress is at the root os sooo many issues.  It's amazing that if a negative emotion can produce negative physical symptoms, then what would we look like and how would we feel if we were happy all the time? Hmm...
