Hi A Kelly Burger, welcome to Family Lobby. :) I agree, you should never abandon pets! They trust us to take care of them and in return love us unconditionally.

I know, I'll never understand that either. I could never be cruel to an animal.
They don't always get put to sleep so fast, piglover96. There's such a thing as no-kill shelters too. At least in a shelter they stand a chance of adoption and if they have to be put down it's done humanely and fast. No-kill shelters aren't perfect either, with some animals being stuck there in cages for years. I don't know what the solution is apart from more neutering of pets and educating children from a young age how much a responsibility it is to have a pet so they grow up to be respectful of and kind to animals they own.
