If we adopted him I seriously don't know...John has custody but we haven't adopted. I don't think he wanted to dash the mothers hopes by doing that, but I also don't think she will make any real attempts to be more than a friend to him. It is all so sad.

It is sad. The poor little guy wouldn't know what was going on if he got handed back to her now. I thought she was in jail and didn't get to see him? I guess I'm behind the times again. :)

we didn't really have the choice in adoption ... I mean, we could have said no, but then we would have lost custody. she was going to be adopted out in one way or another :( I would have loved for her mother to have the chance to get her back, she is an amazing woman, and a wonderful mom, who just went through some rough times.

I don't think you ever told us the story of how her adoption came about, diane. Care to share? I'd be interested in hearing it.

I don't want to get too into details publicly, but falyse was in need of a foster home when she was born. we were approved quickly and she was brought to us at 4 days old. we were meant to be a temporary placement, until she could go back to her mom, but the state had other ideas. her mom asked us if she stopped the proceedings, would we adopt or let her go? we knew she belonged with her family and we knew that she needed to know her true story (and of course we loved her to death - lol) so we agreed to adopt. her adoption was very quick and finalized when she was 18 months old. I have so many mixed feelings about it, but ultimately we did what we thought was best at the time and it is what it is :) falyse is loved and she gets to grow up around her siblings and biological parents and both sides of her family.

Thanks for sharing that, diane. Such a blessing it was all round that she came to you guys, I'm sure. :) She's a lucky girl to have all that family love surrounding her.

You all do a grand job. :D And the little ones will never forget that when they're old enough to appreciate it, I'm sure.

some of our benefits were cut, and they put a hold on our payments. we were supposed to receive an increase now that the baby is 5, but they are holding us at our original amount now instead of cutting it.

I'm not ready to say one way or the other just yet ... we have clients 120 days out and we are hurting ... it's the only economy I know of at the moment - lol

What puts bread on my own table is the yardstick I use a lot. I see many freelancers slashing their rates to the bone to try get business and there's fewer buyers out there right now. Advertising is usually one of the first casualties in a sluggish economy, which I'll never understand. It's one of times you should be promoting yourself more while the competition lays low, not less.
