I had a few run-ins with mine when my son was small. Unlucky for him I don't believe in treating doctors like gods and never questioning their judgment LOL. They're human which means they're not infallible. Ever done that?

ORIGINAL: dianerene oh yeah - lol. dentists too. I have walked out of visits because I didn't agree with what they were trying to "sell" me. the most recent being a dentist that insisted my 5 year old (then 3) needed a device put in her mouth the get her to stop sucking her thumb ... yeah NOT! Eh? You're joking. I've never heard of such nonsense. That's the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time LOL.

You know it's lucky for your kids that you don't take what professionals say at face value if it sounds dubious. I'm the same. Thank goodness for the net! It's great we no longer have to and can easily investigate things further as well as trusting our own judgment.

I rarely go to the docs or take my kids in. LOL I haven't always agreed 100% with my doctor's diagnosis but he's also not one that claims to know it all either. He's more than willing to admit when he's not sure or if he turns out to be wrong about something. The dentist is another story. The first dentist I ever had was a wonderful gentleman who never took a penny more than the insurance gave. Great guy. Then his son took over the practice. He is all about money, money, money so he'd try and convince me to do a lot of unnecessary things to my teeth and the kids teeth. He got himslef in a pickle writing out false prescriptions for his drug habit. (He just made the paper again for the same thing.) I switched to a new dentist now but she seems just as greedy. Always trying to get me to spend extra. I think they get mad at me when I don't do what they want. Hey, the day they want to do the service at no extra cost, then I'll agree to it.

Good grief, I don't think I'd want my dentist to be high when he was drilling. Or ever! LOL. That's very scary. I'm surprised he's still allowed to practice. I think insurance brings out the worst in some professionals. What they and others don't realize is that their greed is what makes it so unaffordable for many people because the costs always end up at the consumer's door in the shape of increased premiums. If they'd play fair more people would have insurance if it was affordable, which would increase their customer base. They'd probably end up making more because of that than bleeding dry the ones they have.
