Sounds strange I know but that's the findings.

quote:

Children who are allergic to milk may be able to overcome their allergy by drinking increasingly higher doses of milk, a new study finds. In 2008, researchers from Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore reported that children with a severe milk allergy could "retrain" their immune systems to tolerate milk and other dairy products by gradually consuming increasingly higher doses. In the current study, researchers followed up with 18 children aged 6 to 16 whose symptoms had eased or gone away during the previous study.

lol  I hardly consider being able to drink 2.5 ounces of milk a day "drinking" milk.

I know for me, I was able to drink milk during my pregnancy.  I drank it every day and even craved it.  but once the craving was gone, the allergy came back. I cant see putting myself through that kind of suffering to try to overcome the allergy ... and why would you do that to your child??  milk is NOT that important to your diet.

but hey, that's just me :)

I think now that we know kids can get the nutritional value elsewhere it's not as big a deal as it was say when we were kids. Parents are a lot more savvy about foodstuffs than they were a few generations ago. I know my mother would have been horrified if anyone has suggested we did without it!

I worked with a woman that demanded the children in our cottage drink a carton of milk at every meal.  some of the kids simply did not like the taste and would ask for water instead.  she did not want to hear it and it appeared difficult for her to allow the substitution.  I thought it was hilarious that someone could be so stubborn about something like that.
