I was wondering if they really are worth the cost of a membership or not. After reading this article about what warehouse clubs don't tell you, I'm not so sure.

We don't.  I think if you have a large family with lots of freezer space it might be, but otherwise, probably not.

I shop at Costco, but only for select items ... cases of gatorade, juice, lotion, body soap, etc.  we do not have a large freezer for extra anything (barely enough room for necessity) - lol.  and aside from the long lines (which I know how to avoid), and the credit card issue (we only use cards with rewards - ours is American Express and we earn airline miles), I hadn't heard about any of the other complaints.

I do know that there are some items you are buying in bulk, but not necessarily getting a better deal for ... soda, for example, is rarely cheaper than the sales I find at target and some of the markets.

I have found that the deals on electronics are hard to beat - we have purchased laptops and cameras there - and when I need to buy it elsewhere, I use costco as the price match ;0)

one key thing to remember is, if you want to use a club like Costco, you need to learn the ins and outs of your particular place.  I know when our costco will be  busy, and I avoid those times ... I also know the prices of my local markets so I can compare per unit price ... and even your club store will offer coupons - check them and USE THEM.

Our Costco is located on the busiest street around!  It's dreadfully bad, right by a Home Depot, grocery store and more.  It's one of the reasons I don't belong....I would never have the patience to sit in traffic like that for groceries.

I have alwayas thought I needed my own lane to drive on the highway, maybe I need my own stores too.  I think that would be totally helpful![:D]

LOL, that would be nice Christine. We should all have our personal malls I reckon. Mine would have about three stores since I hate malls.

See now that's what I call smart shopping. :) I like the price match idea too. That's very clever! I would never have thought you could match warehouse stores as well as ordinary ones. Thanks for the tips!

not all of them allow it, but our Best Buy is 3 doors down from the Costco and they will price match - makes it nice.  Our costco is also in a busy area, but we usually only shop there once a month and we go on a week night when it's not very crowded.

I can see why BB would, definitely. Better than losing the sale entirely. I don't know why because I've never been in one but I didn't think Costco would have things like laptops. Thanks!

costco has EVERYTHING!  lol r ight now they have all of their christmas decorations out, in the summer they have above ground pools, BBQs, patio furniture and all year they carry TVs, laptops, desk tops, phones, printers, ipods, tires, car stuff, office stuff ... and the list is endless - lol.

I think I need to check if we have one near at hand then. I'm all for one stop shopping! I hate going from store to store to store.

I live in a small town where the biggest store is a Walmart.  Two hours south of me there is a Sam's Club which I am a member of.  I'm not sure it's worth it simply because we only go once or twice a year but I continue to pay my yearly membership fee anyway.  LOL

Wow!  Two hours!  Although I complain about all the traffic, I'm not sure I could survive in a small town...it definitely does have its appeal though.

Ack, I don't know if I'd be willing to travel that far to shop unless I was going to get an especially good deal and taking a truck to bring plenty home in to make it worth the gas. :)
