That's a scary number and much higher than the one in 10 that share access to a car. Why is that? Do you think it's because they're less conscious of it being Dad's or Mom's car too which reins them in a bit? Article

That is scary! My boys had to use our vehicles until they were 18. Once they turned 18 my husband co-signed a loan for each of them to purchase a vehicle. They are responsible for payments and insurance. Neither has ever gotten a speeding ticket or any other kind of violation. Both of them have actually thanked us for not buying them a car and making them work for their own. They said it made them more responsible. They have so many friends that were given vehicles when they turned 16 and they turned around and crashed them. Mom and dad just bought them another one. I really don't understand some parents line of thinking.

I had my first crash when I was 19...I think for the most part when you're young you just take safety for granted. But after crashing that huge El Dorado I guaruntee I haven't had an accident since!

No wonder so many kids have the snotty attitude that they should be handed everything on a plate. That's crazy. You took a far better approach, Thelma, teaching them the value of the car plus responsibility. Pat on the back for you! :)

The first one was with my ex when I was about 18 and we tangled with a motorbike. It was the biker's fault. He just shot out of the side road without looking because it was in the early hours on a quiet road and ran right into the side of our car. Luckily everyone was ok but I gave him hell once I knew he was okay when he took off his helmet and I knew him from school LOL.
