At the ripe old age of 21 last month. That's round about 120 in human years. I hope mine live that long. I've never had a pet as long as I've had my girl dog and she's about 7 now. I was surprised to learn smaller dogs tend to live longer.

Yes I think smaller dogs have less pressure on organs and what not ...although you would think it would all be relative.  My dog, all 145 pounds of him is ten....I worry all the time.  He's my bestest buddy!

You would think it would be relative, yep. My neighbor has five chihuahuas and I keep expecting them to keel over one day because they are so hyper! You can't go out in the yard without them all dashing to the fence and snarling and throwing themselves against it like maniacs as if they were ten feet tall LOL. Then they take a closer look and think "oh, it's her" and wander off again. I made the mistake of trying to pet them once and got nipped.

You'd think they'd be a bit more grateful. We took them in during the ice storm for a couple of nights, the wee monsters LOL. Sounds like they'll be around awhile yet.

lol, my folks have a mini Chihuahua and he too is very yappy and nippy.  He only loves my Mom and doesn't let anyone near the house.  They are having a new roof put on and I can't believe the little terror hasn't found a way to get up there and bite all the roof workers!

My dog would never bite anyone.  Well, he actually has but it was someone who was threatening me so it was ok...I'm pretty sure he would die for me.  He is the most loyal dog ever, in the world!!

Did I ever tell you about my Siamese cat? It cornered an electrician I had fitting a new stove for me and had the poor guy backed into the wall yelling for me to take it away LOL. How embarrassing. I worked beside him and never knew the cat would do something like that. Apparently they are more like guard dogs than cats.

I've never seen either of my dogs behave aggressively but I think they would do the same thing if they thought any of us were threatened.

I had a mixed breed dog that was around 12 years old. he passed away last year. [&:] I loved him... [&:]

Awww, sorry to hear that. Just think of all that love he had and shared in that time. It's hard but look what we'd be missing out on if we'd never had them in the first place.

Our family dog just turned 9 years old last Feb. 25. I couldn't imagine how life would be without our dog. He's still everyone's baby even with his age. My dad always bring him whenever he travels and our dog pretty much assumes that it's his daily routine so he whines whenever he doesn't go out.

I know what you mean, sacredflower. My Dad's had their dog now for about 15 years and he's now at the stage where he really needs to be put to sleep. He's half blind, can't get up by himself so they need to carry him outside to do his business (and he's not small, he's a collie) and now he just lays there all the time. He used to be so full of life and bouncy, it's a shame but Dad refuses to do it because he says he's not in pain. It's hard because Mum can't talk to Dad about it without him crying. I've tried and it didn't work. My brother offered to take him but Dad said no. The dog might not be in pain but he doesn't have any quality of life either. I dread the day when I need to do it to my own but I would if they were like that. I don't know what else to do.

Ugh, I dread the day too.  My dogis twelve now and my best friend.  When I was in a bad relationship he was there for me, and protected me nearly to the death.  I will be devastated when the day comes, I try not to think about it, but it is a reality and it stinks. [;)]

My parents had to get their beloved dog put to sleep last week. His legs had finally went completely and he couldn't even stand at all, poor thing. They are both brokenhearted but know it couldn't be put off any longer. It was so hard to hear my Mum crying when she was telling me on the phone. I was sobbing myself. Still am when I think about it and him being gone. Clyde was 15 years old and loved very much by us all, bless him. He gave all our family and our own kids much joy and love. They couldn't have had a better dog. The vet said they'd done the right thing and it was better to do it now because at the next stage they may have had to call for one in the middle of the night because he was in pain. Mum said it was very peaceful and he just slipped away without a murmur.  RIP Bonnie Clyde. You'll be greatly missed.
