I am new to Family Lobby, but I am quite impressed with what you have to offer. This site I am working on is my test site for one of my genealogy family groups. Currently, I pay for 3 fairly large sites with My Family and they are revamping to a similar style, but have their priorities (it seems to me) all out of order, and after many months of beta they are considering "migrating" some of the old sites over without features we currently have on them and find to be necessary. It sounds as though your site is fairly new, as well, but your support people seem to consider your suggestions with a bit more concern. I have read through several of the topics and I still have a couple of questions. In no particular order of priority, they are: 1) I created a custom page, but I do not have the option to make it my home page when I save it. Do the upgrades allow the option of selecting it to be the "home page"? 2) In the free version, the files section has 4 predefined sections: videos, music, images, documents. Do the upgrades have the ability to define folders under those headers? If not, is that possibly on your list of features to come? We have way too many files to post without being able to categorize them. 3) I have the section backgrounds set to transparent on members home page view, but originally I had this greenish/bluish color for the headers and borders. When I found the place to set those in the section colors and borders under website layout, the option went away to have them be transparent. So, I finally found a color that will be fairly unnoticed on the background. My question then is, am I creating the conflict that will not allow all the sections to be transparent? The header on the homepage is the only one that is transparent at this time. 4) I have only set up one actual member at this time so I can see what differences there are in the levels of access. I notice when I login under my daughter, that she has nearly all of the abilities to edit and delete the content/categories as a regular member that I have as the admn. I see that this has been brought up before, but I would really not want someone to be able to change the look of the site for everyone. I hope someone can clarify this for me. 5) As I work with getting the tree ready, I had no choice but to accept these "dead ancestors" as members. Question, do they count toward my 30 member restriction on the free site? 6) Is the ability to upload a family tree in gedcom available on any of the current site options? 7) referring back to 2), can we put a search engine on the sites? Thank you all for your help.

Sorry, I forgot something else....under the calendar, is it possible to only show what is happening in the current month instead of showing everything through whatever time takes up that space? Or, where it says "more", could there be a choice of "current month"? Thanks again

Hi Shirley, Welcome to the site. I apologize for the delay in responding. Here are the comments below. 1) I created a custom page, but I do not have the option to make it my home page when I save it. Do the upgrades allow the option of selecting it to be the "home page"? Since we don't place ads on the custom pages, we don't allow them as the home page. You can set the custom page as the homepage in the upgraded version. 2) In the free version, the files section has 4 predefined sections: videos, music, images, documents. Do the upgrades have the ability to define folders under those headers? If not, is that possibly on your list of features to come? We have way too many files to post without being able to categorize them. We have had this suggestion and we will definitely make this section more flexible in the future. Currently, there is no way to make everything transparent. Selecting a same color as the background should work for you. If you continue to have problems, please send an email to support and we will review the site. Regular members cannot delete categories. Please specify exactly what she is able to delete and we will determine the problem. 5) As I work with getting the tree ready, I had no choice but to accept these "dead ancestors" as members. Question, do they count toward my 30 member restriction on the free site? Everyone added to the site is considered a member. In many cases, users will want to enter more information about the people they had on the tree besides their name. Even though their name may just appear on the tree, you'll want to click on that person to see their birthday, anniversary, a photo, and even a former location. Because all the same information is wanted for the descendant, they are a member. We don't have exceptions at this time, but may have an option in the future. 6) Is the ability to upload a family tree in gedcom available on any of the current site options? Currently, you can only download a GED format. 7) referring back to 2), can we put a search engine on the sites? You can add a Google SafeSearch in the right section by going to the homepage settings

Currently, there is no way to only show the current month on the calendar. I will add this to the request list.

Hi, Sandiwane. We are working on adding more borders. If there is some you found on a site, we will definitely consider adding it.

Yep. We try and provide as much free services as we can to our users without us going into a deep loss of money to upkeep the servers ect. Like the support user said, if you can think of a feature that is feasible, we will definitley put it on the request list. As for fundraisers, I don't think we really need to raise money. But, we are always oepn to donations. Doesn't it sound better if we pay you? That is why we have a poetry contest going on at the moment, to help draw more attention to these forums and Family Lobby itself. quote:

Hi McGeehan, When you add an entry to the custom section, you should have an option to click "Flash gallery" and include the gallery in there.

Hmm, I do see what you are saying, but I was hoping to add the flash gallery of photos directly into the Custom section as it's created....so it can appear on the front page not as a link....I can do it in the news section, but I'd prefer not to do it there.....

You can go to the photo gallery and click the flash gallery link. Click "Add to another page or site" for the flash you would like. Copy the code and paste it into the description of the custom section using the "Past Ticker/HTML" button.

Is there a way to remove some photos that were attached to a News Story using the browse for Photos button at the bottom. I can't seem to remove some of them. Thanks.

Unfortunately, the news story has to be completely deleted. Then, added back without selecting the photo. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Hi, I am a new owner of a familylobby site, and discovering something new everyday within the website. I love it, and all its bells and whistles! -what you think should be improved on the site I would love to be able to do css and frames for the front pages, I have been doing them now for about a year and love the flexability of having a site show my personality. I like the templates but would also like the choice to do my own style of banner making. I would also love to be able to edit news postings etc. I just recently sent out my first rather bare newletter, I had inserted images and when sent those did not appear. So I gather by a previous posting that the images doesn't apply for the newsletter. -how to attract more users Hey I'm trying, telling others about this site and the great sections you all offer. -any special features you would like to see Same as the above plus one more thing. I would like to see a list of members and their sign in time(although they may not be on the site at that moment)On the front page section. All in all familylobby website is terriffic! Love the glitter text, day ticker, Journals love them...but especially that you can add your own sections to your site.

Thank you for your comments and compliments. We really appreciate it. In January, everyone will be suprised by all the new features. You can add css code. In the member area, click the "Website layout" link and go to "Apply global style". There you can specify styles for the entire page. How did you add the picture to the newsletter? If you click "Pictures/Web files" from the toolbar, select the picture from the web files section, then send the newsletter, it should keep the picture. In the January release, you will be able to see who logged in on the homepage with their picture. Again, thank you for the comments and let us know if you have anymore suggestions.

is there anyway to include the Photo Gallery title in with the search. Right now it only searches for each picture file name, but sometimes I'm look for a particular photo gallery name...we have plenty on our site! Would be nice. Thanks.
