Yea, it was sad to see it closed. At its peak my group had about a thousand members and also ran about 1000 messages/week. It was just too much for a pet project even though we had several "taggers" doing most of the graphics work. By the time MSN shut it down, it was just a shell of what it used to be. It can burn a person out as it did to me.   For me the fun is building the site up and not so much the graphics part. As I was cleaning the site out before closing, went through many albums created by members and brought a tear to my eye wondering where they were now.   A lot of friendships were created and lost there.

actually my cousin started a website from here for our family (cousins, aunts etc, about 50 members in all).
then last March when i received e-mail concering my high school's 45th reunion and a ROSTER showing all the class-mates with e-mail addresses, i could not sleep one night and figured "WHY NOT US?" so i did and WOW it had become so popular. 80 members now and still growing.

I was researching family websites. I created a family website last month ( a paid site, I have a very large family) and decided to see how it works with a genealogy group as well.
My family site: Nuts In My Tree
My group site: Family Lost and Found
I also have a few groups on Multiply I am considering moving here.

Welcome EJBradt, I'm glad you found us. :) Did you end up at Multiply as a result of the MSN Groups closure? I'd read about that and thought it was such a shame having to switch all that over or disband and start anew elsewhere. From what I heard the changeover wasn't the smoothest of transitions for the MSN Groups.

Awww that's a shame but I can appreciate the burnout you speak of as well. I ran my own community before with a couple of hundred members and while it was nowhere near the size of yours, it did take over my life. Really that was why I closed it in the end, too many wanted too much of me but not to contribute much effort themselves. It had also got where cliques had formed and I detest that, so that was another reason to pull the plug. When you spend all day working on it and all night dreaming you're working on it like I did, it's time to find some balance lol. I do miss some of the friendships too though. Hopefully they'll all find you again and want to help at this new one. :)

I have also used myfamily.com but had recently been looking for an alternative and found family lobby by searching on Google.  I just put up a site for my family a few days ago, and am hoping they will join.  It is very similar to myfamily, but there are a few small differences and so far I like it here.

I found your site while searching on google for family websites.  I looked at a few and this seemed to be just what I was looking for.  I too started the free and was up to my limit on the family tree immediately.  I am just getting started.  First time I have ever built a site and I have really enjoyed the experience.  Looking forward to getting the site out to all my family.

Hey Ags

Welcome to Family Lobby. I just love checking out sites and getting new ideas from the ones that are open to visitors. It's amazing because this site is actually run by the participants. From the forums to templates.

Welcome to the Family!

I was looking on google for a family website to get in touch with the younger generation and came across your site.  We are having our reunion in a week and hope to debut our new website.  I upgraded so that the site will look great.  I am still in the process of building it but I still have about 5 days to finish.  But I would like to know if a single photo can be put on a custom section. The only problem is adding music to the page.  Hopefully everything will work out snd we don't hsve to look any farther!

The custom page feature is very versatile. You can put about anything you like on it. If you want music for just that one page, I would recommend installing a player from PlayList.com, or other site, on that page.If you use the player from FamilyLobby it will just play on the home page or all pages. PS 5 days sounds pretty fast      Dave

Where is the familylobby playlist.  My son tried and at the bottom it says playing but there is no sound! I am not that great at this website stuff so I have to have a user-friendly site. I know thw custom pages but I was talking about the custom section (the easy one)
