Cell phones are not needed during the normal school day. I am OK with the students bringing them as long as they are off and in their lockers; however, I am realistic enough to know that will not happen. They will be in pockets or in purses on vibrate or with ultra-high freq. rings. Banning outright is the only realistic solutions. Most school systems will not, however, stand up the the pressures from a few very vocal parents that insist they must be able to get in touch with their kids at any time. Funny...I thought that was what he phones in the office were for!

Wow, although I don't know your age, I think you are the first reply to this post that is either still in school or just out.  True?

I agree, and am still surprised this topic goes on.  I love it!!!

My school has a ban on cell phones. We have to turn them in to the office when we get to school. Of course nobody does. We hate the ban. I see no problem if our phones are turned off and in our backpacks. If it goes off in class, tell them to turn them off and give them a lunch detention or something. Not In-School suspension! It's so pointsless. I believe we should have our cell phones in case of emergency. What if we got let out of school early due to weather conditions? YOu can't have 500 kids going to use the same office phone to call their parents! Cell phones should be allowed.

should be allowed: emergencies (my daughter's school goes on lock down for various reasons and it's nice to know that she is okay when I drive by and see the school surrounded by armed police officers.  also to let her know I may be late in picking her up which has happened one time in the 4 years of high school).

quite honestly, I think they are a nuisance at school for any other reason.  the school is quite capable of passing along any info that NEEDS to be given to her and she is allowed access to school phones to call me if needed, so there is no other reason I see to have them there.  being that I can actually stop and ask the armed police officers if there is any danger to my child, and that my daughter is 16 and knows how to use office phones and pay phones, the emergency situations are really only out of convenience, not necessity.

A texting teacher?!?  What is this world coming too....so very, very sad. Her lack of attention only proves the point more though.

I think that their should be cellphones allowed in school by just putting them on silent during class and be able to go from there.we should be able to use them during lunch and if we end up getting sick just be able to call our parents.

I think students should not have cell phones because it is a distraction to students and teachers.

i believe students should be allowed to keep their cell phones on in school. for emergencies and so that they arents stolen in their locker. i just want to feel safe. my school must walk to another school for lunch. My town holds 31 former chold molesters. and i do not feel safe. We have many natural disasters here.I believe we should be allowed to not only have them in school, but have them on.

Ring Ring...Hey I cant talk right now Im At school, Ill call you later. What If students could have their cellphones in class. The rule at Bethel Park Highschool is that no cell phones and if you get caught with one you got three Saturdays. This policy should be changed. The students of Bethel Park should be able to have their cellphones on in class. First, with the students having their phones their parents could contact them easily in case of emergency. It would be much faster to get a text saying doctors appointment or dentist apointment then students would not have to get a note, go to the attendence office then they call home and then you get a excuse. Another reason would be if their would be a family death your mom or dad can pick you up so you dont have to sit in class and cry when you find out about it by the office calling the teacher. Nextly, cellphones work as a great school tool, and its also a planner and you can be very organized cause it would be right on your phone. In math class you can pull out your cellphone and use it as a caculator to help you with the math and its also cheaper for the school to stop buying thousands of caculators each year.Students are always with their phones and if they have homework they can save it as a note in their cell and then look at it after school then their will be more students bringing their homework done and there fore better grades.Their are also many other reasons. For example what if a student is going to be late and has some stuff to do after school and needs a ride? She needs a phone to call her parents. Also all the parents are always worried about the teens and where they are. All they have to do is call them up and see what there doing and where their at. Cell phones are not only convenient, they are one more way to for you to stay connected with your child and know they’re safe when parents are worried. The benefits of having a cellphone outweigh the downsides. Lastly,In case of intruder that comes to the school and tries to endager the students and teachers if they had their cellphones police would be called right away. If a student has their phone when their is a bomb threat or a shooting, students could have their phones and most of them would call their parents to tell them to pick them up and the police would be called. It would be alot easier if students had their cellphones on in this kind of emergency. Also less students and staff and teachers would not die.In most schools in America bomb threats to schools have been called by cellphones and stopped before it actually happened. Also if you were kidnapped on campus, you just call your parents right away. Cellphones will help with safety. This is why Bethel Park students should keep their cellphones on in class. These are some of the main problems, due to students not having there cellphones on so therefore bad things like this can happen. In result to all
