For the first time since the U.S. began tallying marriages, more Americans of prime marrying age have stayed single rather than tied the knot, the culmination of a tectonic shift in the role of marriage and relationships that began in the 1960s. High divorce rates, rising co-habitation and a tendency to delay marriage are main factors.

When I think about it, I know more couples now that aren't married than are, compared to say twenty years ago. They are in long term relationships, just not married.

And I am one of them!

I've been married so I'm not sure what the big deal is. I am just as committed, with or without a ring.

I think people are becoming aware that marriage is not something that you do today and regret tomorrow. This data is actually good. The more people are matured before they get married the more chances of lowering down divorce statistics and cases of broken families. We must not rush ourselves into getting married.

Quite true, they just enjoy the company but do not want to get married.
I think they feel getting married and separation plus getting and raising children.

That is a common trend in my country, too. People cannot live without love but they don't want family ties!
