The Obama administration is revising some rules on federally guaranteed student loans. The administration says the changes will make it easier for graduates to repay them. It's making it easier for students to consolidate loans into a single payment and expanding a program that bases payments on a graduate's income. The new rules will affect 7 million of the 36 million student loan borrowers.

I am one of those folks with a big, fat loan. I would love some help. The loan people are unwilling to even lower them so most people don't pay at all.

We could use a break since for a long time my student loan was higher than my income.

There is no denying the fact that Obama is trying hard and his level best to bring new reforms and rules on student loans, but I think that it will take some amount of time. At the present, the federal loans are so tough that only a handful of students are eligible to apply. And if we talk about the private student loans, the rate of interest is so high that many students are unable to afford it. While the amount so made available through the scholarships and grants is so meager that only a fraction of college expenses are covered. So how on earth would an average middle class student go to complete his/her higher studies???

Pretty interesting thread about SLA or Student Loan Assisitance and indeed, this brought a big help to students and parents as well to continue their schooling. Education is really important to us. We consider education as a very precious tool in life that's why every opportunity to spend education in any form and how much it cost. When the economic climate is down and unemployment is high, there is a surge in the amount of individuals going back to school for more education. For many students, deciding if you should go after an advanced degree should be made by balancing expenses and potential future gain. Source of article: Doing the math of graduate school costs
