What traditions do you have with your children during Holiday seasons? Do you go to midnight mass? Do you allow your children to open just one present on X-Mas eve, like my parents did? Share all your customs.

I have none, or maybe very few - other than we pull out the decorations the day after thanksgiving and put them away the day after christmas.  oh, and we do NOTHING christmas-y on the 24th ... that is my daughter's birthday and I want her to have that all to herself.

I don't "do" santa, so there is no visiting santa at the mall, or leaving out cookies (I would honestly be perfectly happy with skipping the holiday all together, but the family won't let that happen).

We do a family name drawing for the extended family - aunts, uncles, cousins - who are over 18 ...

we talk a lot to my grandparents, they both died during the holidays years ago and I swear they come back to visit with us a lot this time of year ...

I think that's about it!

When I was younger my mum and dad would always make sure we went to bed early on christmas eve and when we woke on christmas morning we was allowed to open one present only after we had made them a cup of tea and a mince pie lol, yeah I know its not quite a tradition. We always put the christmas decorations up on the 16th of December because thats my mums birthday.

We are a inter-religion family so we celebrate 2 holidays in 1; First is Hannukah, we celebrate lighting of the Menorah, the kids get small gifts or money each night, we make special fried foods and the kids get to have a grandparents weekend, where they go to a movie or show. Then we celebrate Christmas (as more of a commercial holiday), each year the kids receive a new ornament for our tree, we make cookies for santa, spend time with family on Christmas Eve and open presents, and do the santa thing Christmas morning; we then end our holiday with breakfast at the grandparents home.

This year we had all new traditions.  We just got custody of our 2 year old grandson so BOY (oh boy) did things change!  We put out Christmas cookies and milk, and listened for the sleigh most of the night, lol.  In the morning he found that Santa had in fact been to the house while he slept.  It was a great day of opening gifts from Santa and visiting with family.

I had forgottenhow much fun watching a little one open gifts was!
