Mine are both inside dogs, so I didn't worry too much about them being outside for short periods in winter until I read that. This helps you know what extra care's needed for your pooch. If your dog's shorthaired, he's more susceptible to getting chilly so don't assume that just because he has fur he doesn't feel it.

Well it's understandable. I wouldn't want to be out in the cold either. Why don't you get him a coat? I try take mine out more during the warmer times of the day so neither they nor I need to be out before sunrise or sunset when it's much cooler for very long.

My father said he would disown me if I ever bought him a coat, lol! He has a large layer of fat that must keep him warm, no? Maybe some booties would help?

Awww, shame! I'm sure he'd not rather see him cold and miserable out there and you having to clean up messes in the cellar. The fat's not doing much obviously when you had already noticed how cold he was. My dogs are chubby too and the Jack Russell shivers terribly when it's snowy. So am I and I feel it LOL.
Booties might, yep. At least his feet would be dry.

I think he's an actor. We got hit with a huge storm and it was freezing cold out....I could not get him in! He loved it!

My poor dog must feel 100 today then. We have had 2 feet of snow and blustery conditions over the last three days. YUCK!

Wow, ELEVEN days?!? Holy cow! We have about 3 foot of snow and ice out there, leaks everywhere in the house, but thankfully we have power!

I agree with you.
We also have to understand that dogs are living, they do have life despite our differences.
As we eat and cloth warmly in winter season we should also try and treat them that way.

I definitely get that, but animals are built for outdoors, unlike humans. I have a lab so he has plenty to keep him warm. I think the only dogs that need coats are ones with very low bodyfat, like a Doberman, or small dog.
They are living yes, but animals as opposed to humans.

That's true, zhianzee. My Jack Russell's definitely the more sensitive of my two dogs to cold. I put a coat on them both in winter. The other one feels the heat more when it doesn't bother the Jack Russell at all.
